Tai-Wen is right...it is hard to find material for flare dampening in this satellite. In fact it quickly becomes clear that this place was possibly the worst place she could be to try and acquire such goods. The Badger do not leave the Rokugan system often and when they do its mostly relating to food shipments from the one world they own themselves. What makes it worse is that the Empire only currently has one Hyper Giant within its borders and the Emperor had declared the system an "Unaligned system directly under the control of the Iweko Dynasty." Its status as well as its ability to stress shields meant their was little demand to make equipment good enough to handle the light, especially at the fighter level.
After all, fighting in that system risks damaging Imperial property...not something worth risking for zero gain.
However a few options are available, they would require jerry rigging, and certainly wouldn't last forever, but the best option seems to be two different aerosols fluids that when combined should act as a temporary flare dampening should it coat the ships. Not only would this be quick, at 3 Bu for each fluid it was a cheap option... provided she got the mixture right. Otherwise it would either peal away much to fast, or start to crack from the heat once they got there.
On the plus side, the ships would be a brighter purple.

Kokishin, I will get to your post tomorrow. Sorry about the delay))

"Ah, please do." Enshiro replies to the courtier's offer to coordinate with Kasuga. He raises an eyebrow at the humor. He had not known Phoenix to joke about such things. Though I no means was the Spider offended. "A consolation, at least." Enshiro chooses to reply.
------
Enshiro notes the attempt to study the schematics. "I could have the fire kami bless you. To help focus and hone your mind on this task." he offers.
(OoC: Fire Kami's Blessing would add 4 unkept dice to your Engineering roll)
When the topic of a sidearm is brought up again, Enshiro calls a servant over and has them fetch a pistol from the armory. They are swift to comply with the command.
As to an examination of the Obsidian Truth's weaponry, Enshiro pulls up a display of the ship, pointing to each feature as he lists them off. "Four light radiant cannons, two ballista class missile launchers, a delivery system for the Children of Kumo, a close range grappling chain, and numerous boarding pods." Enshiro sounds almost proud. Almost.

(OOC: I laughed when I read that Enshiro raised an eyebrow at the humor. I was actually going to finish with "Kokishin chuckles when he sees the Spider's eyebrow go up" but did not want to claim your character did something that you did not explicitly state) "A very impressive setup you have here, Daigotsu-sama. I can only hope that you have not had to use these weapons much." Kokishin would gladly accept the spell, but I did already roll. I'm fairly confident in my 30+ roll, but if the GM doesn't take issue with retroactively rolling 4 more unkept dice, and appending it to the already established result, I certainly will. orokos.com/roll/523266 only increases my total by 1. I replace my lowest kept die, 7, with an 8.

Tai-Wen, hears the chirp as the email arrives, and clicks the chat notification with a roll of her eyes as she reads the title. "Naosuko-san, I presume?" As she speaks, she flicks up a list of compounds she needs for the flash shielding, and starts mentally jotting down what she can use to to mix some up without access to a real shipyard chemical store. "Hai." Naosuko replies to the chat. By this time, the Ichicom MK IV is in a couple pieces as the Tortoise tinkers with its innards for some reason. "Thought I'd get something set up so we can all talk even if we're separated. Long as the network holds out I guess." "Got most of my errands done," Aha, there it is. She takes a pair of pliers to a module on the bottom of the motherboard and carefully removes it. "Just checking in with everyone else, figure out when we're leaving and whether I can be of any assistance in making preparations. Real scorcher where we're headed." "Smart. I'm still a bit task-focused before takeoff. You see the star? Need to find a workaround or we'll all be flying blind, but this port is crap for materials, and my first choice isn't going to pan out," Tai-Wen says into the coms, pointedly ignoring the offended look from the shopkeep as she replaces the low-cost option on the counter and walks out.

"Whatcha mean," Naosuko suppresses a yawn, "Do you think the radiation is going to play havoc with our sensors?" The Ichicom is mostly put back together, the wireless module safely stowed in one of the pockets of her toolkit. "With that brightness, looking toward it wouldn't work well anyways. What about adapting some welding goggles?"

"Could work. Would solve the blindness problem, but we still have to deal with the intense radiation. It would mean there would be safe space, and woe betide anyone who flies out of it."

There's always an extra screw when you tinker with something. Naosuko stared at the silvery rebel as it sat defiantly on the table, mocking her. She cursed quietly at it in Ivindi, something about its heritage.
"Radiant shields might help a lot with that, radiation is energy right? I have my ship's computer trying to figure out a way to roll so as to even out the distribution. Just an estimate though, won't know if it'll work til we get there." She grabbed the screw and examined it closely, comparing it to the screws on the case of the Ichicom. "Only problem would be if we had to look at something in person."

"Agreed. No spacewalks until we've put that system far behind us. Of course, our group doesn't exactly look like a squad of Chuubushi to begin with. I figure we see what we can there, figure out where it went, go from there."

Kokishin study of the plans reveals numerous new things about the space station, including the presence of several blank spaces used to contain....something. Given the nature of the Spider Clan and especially the talents of the Shimazu and Gyushi families, the possibilities were almost endless. The Obsidian ringed Vents still remain the easiest way to enter the vessel if found, unless you wished to enter through the main entrance.
However perhaps with some skilled shooting the Obsidian could be shattered, making such an entry more...pleasant. It was unlike to get all the Obsidian, but it was less likely that doing so would drive you insane. One Vent in particular stands out, its size indicating that perhaps its used when someone wants to enter the vents to preform maintenance. While the Obsidian their is designed to come away more easily, the point of weakness was identified by the designers and it has 3 light Radiant Cannons around it, to try and eliminate potential Chuubushi attacks.
Their are also a few weaknesses in the hull where the plates of metal designed to make the space station overlap, but many of those are in front of the blank spaces in the space station's plans...
Should they get inside the ship, Kokishin can see numerous ways to destroy it....From the outside the best bet is possibly something risky. The Obsidian rods are designed to go one way...down. However with enough Force behind them, especially if they were caught in open space, where gravity was weak, they could be forced up into the space station itself. The Damage an Obsidian infused Tungsten rod would do if this happened would likely lead to a critical systems failure. But it would require moving 10 ton rod.
Tai-wen's notes look liked it would work, and if she mixed it would certainly have the right colour and be transparent enough to see through. But that was expected even if it she got her calculations wrong, the risk wasn't that it would block their sight but that it would fail to the Solar winds. And had it been 2:3 or 2:5 was the ratio. No way to no sadly until it was mixed up, on the ships and they were out on front of the star at this point, unless she wanted to spend more time then they really possibly had.
Even if it had worked of course that would only really work for the Wake Angels. There was no time to paint the Diagotsu's vessel.
The goggles however would totally work, and could be found for 1 Zeni each. It would limit their field of view significantly, but finding a ship based solution was only going to happen if she went with the untested formula.
The roll calculations came back for the Naosuko...anyone using only Light Radiant Shields was in for an unpleasant time if they got motion sickness, but it would work.

Kokishin, who has been mostly observing the chat between the angels and the tortoise and only piping in often enough to let them know he is still there, conveys his lengthy results, taking care to especially mention the weaknesses that could be exploited. He does NOT mention the blank spaces. This he only mentions verbally to the Daigotsu.
"Daigotsu-sama, there a few blank spaces in the schematic that appear to be for storage. Would you have any idea what might be contained in them? Something an enemy might be able to take advantage of?" he asks, not really expecting the spider to know, much less share.

"I guess, combat isn't my forte to begin with, but sometimes an in person investigation can gather better information." The Nōchirasu beeped, and a notification popped up on Naosuko's holocom.
"Success, but perhaps not too pleasant for some." She passed on the ship roll information to the group. "Hopefully that will be of use. We might also consider flying in the shadow of a larger ship just to be safe."

"They could, perhaps, be used for storage. Perhaps where they kept the rods? Perhaps they are actually prison cells or containment units of a sort? I haven't the faintest idea of what they would keep there. Maybe whatever took over the ship was able to escape from such a blank space?" Enshiro is sort of spit-balling here, just throwing out ideas.

As the discussion of the space station continued, and the various ships were preparing to leave, a message went to Enshiro's personal email. The message was written in Spider Cypher, specifically a variation used by the Diagotsu family.
((OOC: Should no one else have anything to add, we can jump to the next system shortly.))
