As certain rolls come up in game, I will make a ruling on how they are done. This location here will be where they are kept both for my own internal consistency and so you can have a quick reference without having to look through the large character creation document.
Identifying someone: There are two options at your disposal, as I wish to limit rolls. First, if you have a reason to know someone by reputation, you automatically do. For example, famous fighter pilots from different clans, even if they have never met before, will likely know each other by reputation. Otherwise you are looking at a Lore: Heraldry roll (with the TN at 40-(Gloryx5 + Statusx2))
. This means some people with a small amount of glory and high status or just highly glorious people are instantly recognizable, to almost anyone, and that makes sense. Be it the Queen of England, the President of the USA or the Emperor of Japan, modern technology means most people have seen photos or video recordings of the nobility most of their life, and heroes, celebrities and the like are well known.
However, even if its someone the entire Empire would recognise, you are allowed to autofail without rolling if you think your character would have no reason to know, (for example, our Nezumi is unlikely to know certain characters.)
Morse Code: Developed first by the Ide to make translation of kanji into foreign words or foreign words into kanji more easily, Katakana was ignored for most of history as something almost useless. As speedy communication became more important however, it was a Phoenix who had used the symbols to communicate with the Yobanjin who realised how it could be used with the rapidly developing technology, that its phonetic sounds could be used to translate words into a simple code. The military applications of such a thing became immediately obvious and thus by the War of the Tao, and certainly by the time of space flight most units had at least 1 person learn at least the basic Morse Code for communication. Many Great Clans have developed their own unique Cypher of the Code, for communication during Radio Silence or when a Communication Jammer is active, allowing messages to be sent in pulses of Light.
Roll: To send or understand the basic Morse Code, roll Computer/Int. If you have the Cypher Emphasis for Calligraphy, it applies to this roll.
