After several Hours of flight the 5 ships arrive at at Daigotsu 5768b. The star was young, and the gases that remained of its nebula gave space a very pale green glow, while making the slightly duller then it should be.
It was still however, the brightest star any of them, apart from Naosuko, had ever seen, and even Naosuko had only seen one brighter.
The system also had numerous asteroids, the worlds that would one day occupy this system not yet formed, drifting around the host star. They were small still for the most part, scanners picking up only maybe 20 asteroids total in the system that would be a significant threat to the ships, and for a moment it seemed like reports of the Solar Wind had been misinformed.
Then the star flashed brighter, the fire kami and air kami within raging once more after a period of calm, and the winds began, the agitated kami and the radiation they produced moving towards the ships like a wave....no...not a wave.
A coronal mass ejection.

Post by The Wake Angels on Jun 12, 2017 18:13:35 GMT 10
The Angels jump into the system just as the cosmic event takes place. None of them are particularly skilled at reading the stars, focusing more on the spaces between, but they know enough to know a hazard when they see one. "FLARE!" Ketaan's normally louder voice practically rings over the com channel, clear and sharp so as not to be misunderstood. He jerks his Baraunghar into a sharp roll out of the coming radiation. On the opposite side of the wing, Tai-Wen has already done the same, not bothering to announce the peril a second time. Ariel, however, was reading to pass the time of travel, distracted by his novel to the point that he does not recognize the strike for what it is until it is already rushing towards the exit point of the Way. He jerks to attention and seizes the controls. Not having time enough to worry, his mind races a hair faster than anxiety can keep up. In the moment, there is no time for thought, anxious or otherwise. And his training does not fail him. At the last minute, in the blinding light of the radioactive spike of material and energy ripping through the darkness between stars, he spins in a downward spiral, the fighter clearing the flare with plenty of leeway. He lets out a breath he did not realize he was holding, and smiles meekly in his helmet. Why was I ever worried? It's an attack on the ship, like any other. And Wake Angels don't get hit.
The Angels decelerate out of their evasion, spinning in the vacuum to see how their companions have fared against the forces of a star.

Naosuko yawns widely as the the Nōchirasu plays the wakeup call five minutes before emergence into normal space. The soft blue glow of light surrounds her, emanating through the cab windows as her ship travels to its destination. She takes a moment to fix her hair a bit, then puts on a wide billed hat and aviator sunglasses as the ship warns that the ship will arrive soon. With a flash of light, the Nōchirasu arrives at Daigotsu 5768b. Though the ships lights are not on, it is still brightly illuminated by the young star, reflecting light in all directions off of the chrome finish. Soon after her companions appear through their own portals. The Tortoise samurai takes a few moments to check their surroundings but is interrupted as the star flashes brighter than before. She squints at her readouts, trying to identify what just happened. What is that? Raw intelligence, TN 15: 3d10k3 13She had never been a scientist, so identifying exactly what happened wasn't something that she was capable of doing. However, just to be safe she begins maneuvering to avoid the incoming wave of fire and air. She begins the roll that the computer had suggested, moving up and away from the solar plane. Let's not get in its way. Pilot/Int TN 20: 5d10o10k3 27The Nōchirasu pitched lazily, her shields flaring brightly against the assault but the ship itself takes no damage.

(ooc: this post was made somewhat in conjunction with Enshiro) The ship draws closer to the danger. Kokishin tries to explain the situation to the helmsman, but the samurai just looks confused and doesn't heed the warning. Kokishin looks toward Enshiro, the commander, and makes a motion as if to say he can take care of it. Enshiro nods, understanding, though his eyes betray a malice towards his helmsman's incompetence. "Move. You're relieved." The helmsman barely has time to look confused when Kokishin pushes him aside. "There's no time. This is going to be close. You all might want to hold on to something." 27 after the free raise orokos.com/roll/524629Kokishin pulls hard at the unfamiliar controls, jerking the ship forcefully away from the incoming flare. Those who did not heed his warning take a tumble, but when the smoke clears, the ship is ok save for a few bruises among its passengers. Kokishin bows and apologizes to Enshiro. "Please forgive me for my unfamiliarity with the controls. I seem to have rattled us a bit. I hope you are unharmed."

The danger passed for now, Kasuga Naosuko attempts to pull up a Miya News site from her datapad to test communication outside of the star system. While that works, she turns her attention to the star and its satellites. "So, how do we want to do this, samurai-samas?" she asks over the encrypted coms that she had set up before.

"Any of you have mining sensors? Or any other way to detect sacred material? If the station came under attack, it might have bled some Obsidian," Ketaan offers, his voice crackling slightly in the background radiation of the young star.
Ariel jumps onto the channel. "Perhaps Asako-san and I could attempt to Sense any such material."

Naosuko dialed up the Nochirasu's sensors, doing her best to filter out the intense radiation and search the shadows left by the small orbiting bodies for anything of interest. The ships sensors were usually used to avoid nosey magistrate patrols and the occasional pirates. "I'll start with a search for any artificial debris," Naosuko says, her face half illuminated by the bright star. "If ya'll can find the Obsidian via the kami that'd be great." "There is no need to apologize, Asako-san. Your Knowledge and Insight led you to take appropriate action. Rest assured, I am unharmed, and our situation is certainly much better than it would have been." Enshiro turns to the helmsman that was piloting only a few moments before. "You. Think on how you can improve. I expect more than hesitation from the pilot of my ship."
After the message over the datapad communications, Enshiro replies, "Ships sensors might be best. The open emptiness of space is vast, and the Sensing of a shugenja takes place in an area much more limited than a ship's scanners. Though, if we were perhaps in the immediate vicinity of the station's previous location, it might work.

Kokishin adds his own reply, internally annoyed with Moto Ariel. "I do not have the gift of speaking to the kami. I believe you meant to refer to Daigotsu-sama when you suggested calling upon them to find traces of obsidian." Having nothing else useful to do at the moment, Kokishin peers out the windows. looking for any subtle visual clues that he might be able to find, i.e. a piece of debris or other objects floating in space. ((OOC: The idea that you are flying in a nebula that the gas was tainted, is really tempting...but no, I will leave Kokishin's concerns just that...concerns.))
The scan for artificial debris to begin with doesn't seem to bring up any matches. It looked like this was an impossibly perfect assault, that somehow a whole space station was taken without a single shot fired or scar shown. However as Naosuko changes filters, looking for any trace of something Samurai make, the sensor does go off. Its certainly artificial, thats for sure, but its not metallic... and its fine, really fine. The only reason it came up at all is because its a completely different material then the rest of the solar system and thus lit up as an anomalous light scattering in space, the kind of thing you would normally use to detect stealth ships, rather then artificial technology.
Regardless of what it was it certainly gave them a pinpoint location of the Satellite's position when it was lost.
As for the Miya news network, their seems to be some sort of lag, some interference before the picture resolved. The same thing seemed to be true on ship to ship communication, something everyone picked up on quickly. Every message sent or received seemed to have a half second delay, and usually started out a little distorted. Perhaps its the solar winds?
As Kokishin searches the skies for anything else that stands out, nothing seems to draw his attention. The gas faint cloud that surrounds them, making the system slightly green was more interesting. Nebula were rarely green, and the concerns of Shadowlands Taint was a logical conclusion to make. However Tainting a star would be a monumental task. The battle that the Emperor declared canceled the Day of Thunder was fought to prevent such a ritual. Surely nothing out their could taint a whole star system. More likely it was a sign of Copper in the system. There was a possibility it was a Jade Dust Nebula, certain stars heavily connected to Lady Sun expressing such traits...
But given the Gaijin Chuda spent time constructing a tainted asteroid in the system that seems highly unlikely. It would be foolish to do something tainted in a system filled with Jade Dust.

The Nōchirasu searches far and wide for any trace, but only discovers the glittering dust of an anti-stealth substance. "Nothing's yet, Samurai-samas," Naosuko states, preparing the ship for inward movement. She puts a virtual pin on the small cloud of dust, and transmits that location to her companions. "I'd like to take a closer look at that, and run some other scans. Keep an eye on that star, we'll have less of a warning the closer we get to it." She adjusts her scanners again, moving away from samurai make to more exotic substances and trails. Perhaps the Chuuda Aliens came back and took the station by complete surprise. Other things? As Naosuko thinks about the situation, the interference stands out as odd. Imperial Jammers, while somewhat rare, tend to be an all or nothing approach.
As she continues to talk to the other Samurai over coms, she notices else. Each time a message is sent, her scanners detect one of 4 locations as a brief ping. Its so brief in fact that straight afterwards, the system issues a false alarm message, believing that no technology or debris could flicker on and off like that so fast. Yet it is consistent.

If Naosuko had seen anything, she does not let it show on her face. "Yep, really should check that out." She adjusts her sensors again, focusing on the source of the echo. "Ya know, this reminds me of the time..." she babbles on with a tall tale about chasing an elusive space creature. It is inane, off topic and a bit long. It also gives her the time she needs to search for those four contacts. Where are you? Computer/Water, two raises, void.: 7d10o10k5 25((OOC: Uh, no.)) Where are you? Computer/Water, two raises, void.
