TIME: Day 1 Afternoon: 30 minutes after Meeting with the Inquisitor EndsShinwa, still deep in thought after all that has been discussed in his previous meeting, and having, of course, retrieved his daisho, begs leave of the other members of the crew of The Warren as they arrive in town, offering to get rice and supplies for another cabin conversion or two. They'll be a passenger freighter at this rate. But his first destination is neither market or outfitters. First he heads to a library. Not the secret and sacred space they so recently left, but instead to the library in town that serves far more common and mundane needs. No great welcome here for a ronin. The Phoenix are polite...they at least allow him to venture out of the heimen section to use the multi-clan, unencrypted terminals for simple posting. He pulls his datapad from the pocket of his trenchcoat. It is primitive thing, technology twenty years out of date if it's a day, but if the Emperor declares that interfaces should remain backwards compatible, then it will, by Heaven's command. Shinwa patiently waited for the device to become synched to the network. A collection of cheap novels and a few magazine title updates slowly loaded onto the device. While it is loading, he logs into a terminal, navigates a location on the public network, opens up a document he finds there and begins to type away. Fortunately, at least for today, no machines seem to be breaking for him and the system is quite cooperative. Working on my novel...

For about 30 minutes nothing much happens, but then someone reviews the sorry. The review is surprisingly complex and if anyone pays close attention they will realize that for some reason it mentions events and themes that have not been mentioned in the story. Of course since it seems to contain comments about the last 3 chapters, another stand alone one shot Shinwa had written and discussion of pairings, its not easy to spot. The review ends with the following statement,
"Blessed are those whose Chugo is clear. Should Chugo, Jin and Meyo conflict, the story will always end in tragedy. It is an ending, of course, but one I hope will not be the end of your story."

Shinwa has moved on past writing, taking the few moments of solitude to finish a gardening journal article he had been reading before his downloads were complete. So he is completely surprised to see the alert that his story has been reviewed, and reviewed so quickly.
He pulls out a brush-tip pen and a piece of writing plastic from his pocket and quickly copies the text of the review onto the sheet. His expression grows more grim the more he reads. But then he reaches the end......And the final statement.
With a pained expression, Shinwa deletes the review and deletes the chapter of the story it went with. He slides his sheet, pen, and reader into his pocket and leaves the library without another word.

TIME: Day 1 Afternoon: 1.5 hours after Meeting with the Inquisitor EndsHis trenchcoat flapping behind him, Shinwa walks briskly, letting the air kami help clear his head and the excercise seep away his distress. He makes his way to the spaceport docking bay and looks around for one of the Shiba guards who were remaining watching the ship. Speaking with him for a few moments, he is pointed to a handful of heimen who don't seem to have much to do. He goes and speaks to them, and gives each of them a shopping list of items to procure for the vessel for restocking, and orders to return with the supplies in an hour, and to charge all to the Inquisitors, under the authority of Asako Honoka. The items are generally normal things: maintenance fluids for the ship and vehicles on the ship, food, and so on. But he also sends them to find futons, blankets, hammocks, and installable shoji-screen walls that can be bolted to a properly equipped floor to create temporary rooms. The heimen split up and go in a few directions to get started on shopping. Then Shinwa signals Kiru on a comm device. He's having luck today. "Kiru-san...you there?"

"Hai-hai. Kiru always here. Can't Shinwa sense Kiru?"
Presuming nothing is somehow interfering, Shinwa can detect his Nezumi ally already aboard the ship, along with Rik.

"Habit," Shinwa replies to the comm. "And it is rude to presume. Hanako-sama indicated 2635-d was a cold world of primarily liquid water. Could you take a look at the environment variables and decide if there are any modifications we need to make to The Warren or the Camel if we need it to handle the environment?"

"Shinwa, The Warren can go anywhere safely, provided we don't come across a planet solely of magma. Itsuki will have to get used to landing on and underwater, but The Warren can do it. As for the Ide Camel, cover will most certainly be needed. Kiru will inspect the Camel now and pass a list of what is needed, if Shinwa can add that to the shopping list?" Scant seconds later, Shinwa feels a tingle up his spine, followed by a vision of a Nezumi with thick fur, sailing a raft in arctic waters, proving that the Nezumi as a species are indeed very resilient. Kiru quickly inspects the Ide Camel to determine how best to install a cover that will trap heat and insulate the passengers of the vehicle from severe wind and cold. A few minutes later, he provides a list of materials he needs to Shinwa via commlink. (OOC: orokos.com/roll/524245# and orokos.com/roll/524246# )

Shinwa rubs his forehead for a moment as a flood of intricate and completely un-earned engineering knowledge tries to hook up to all the corresponding synapses. But at least now he understands the shopping list he has been given. He writes them all down quickly with his brush-tip pen on another scrap of writing plastic, and heads to a shop near the docking bay that sells vehicle-sized radiant shields. The flood of engineering knowledge brings with it one more idea, and he signals Mirumoto Nanashi on the commlink. It does not work for a few minutes, but he keeps walking and tries again. This time it functions properly. "Nanashi-san...Are you there?"

"Go for Nanashi."

"I am purchasing components to add an environmental shield to the Camel. If you have had the chance to review the environment variables for 2635-d, you may need to make adjustments if you want to use your motorcycle for this sort of expedition, or in similarly hostile environments. You can install on trip, but you should pick up the components now if they have them."

The com clicks, "This gives me an interesting idea. I'll see if I can make this work. Thanks, Shinwa. Hey, did we ever fix the blender?"

Shinwa hesitates. "I...don't know. I have not tried to use it again since....I do not use it any more. I will speak with you later."
He disconnects from the communication device, and then takes the printed list to the ji-samurai working for the Shiba and overseeing the installation of radient shields for vehicles of various sizes. Shinwa passes the list over.
"These parts please? I need them delivered to The Warren. They are for a six year old Ide Camel. But I marked the sizes."

The sound of a dragons growl comes from inside the Warren. Nanashi can be seen driving his motorcycle out and onto the main road.
After a good while later, Nanashi returns back to the Warren laden with bits and parts. A group of peasants follow in a poor excuse for a transport followed in his wake. They carried plastic and metals. Nanashi loads into the Motorcycle bay. The space clogged with bits and bobs.
Nanashi thanks the men, tips them and begins to organize, at this stage, junk.

Once the shop owner has received the list of parts and agreed to bring them all to the ship, Shinwa pulls out a thick plastic card. While asking the Phoenix to resupply the Warren with food and cabin modifications for the new crew members they have assigned them was appropriate, if only to allow the Phoenix to show the bonds of their hospitality, the Camel did not owe its origins to the Phoenix and its modifications were under the province of another lord. He passes the card to the ji-samurai, who accepts it without even thinking. She inserts it into the credit reader, and then returns it, a certain surprised respect in her eyes. "Here you are, Samurai-sama. The parts for your environmental radiant shield should be delivered within the hour."
Shinwa takes back the card and looks at it thoughtfully. A lord should take care of his own. It is only just. Only a cruel lord would send his men into battle unprepared. He slides the card in his pocket, and goes to find the most difficult of destinations in this peaceful Phoenix space port: A weapons shop. He may even need to search for a more scurrilous destination, but he will try legitimate destinations first.
One of the new crew members is not prepared for battle. Shinwa would see to it that he becomes prepared, and worthy of the name he bears.

It ends up taking at least 30 minutes and a call back to Asako Honoka to receive permission, but Shinwa is eventually led to a strictly-controlled weapons shop maintained by the Shiba. As the ronin enters he is glared at with suspicion. However, displaying the letter of authorization from Asako Honoka that he finally has resorted to actually printing out eventually gets him entry into a small, well-guarded shop for weapons and armor. Not katana, of course. Radiant blades are only ever given as gifts of a lord. Even these weapons technically would be such gifts, but, unlike katana, radiant pistols do occasionally reach the end of their useful lives. They break. Radiant armor have plates that get broken beyond repair, and it requires supernatural means to fix them. For those without such talents on hand, new must be acquired, and this is where those seeking such things go.
Shinwa enters the shop and the ji-samurai who is authorized to review and cover such purchases hurries forward, at least after receiving a nod from the Shiba guard. No heimen are allowed here...usually no ronin either, but Honoka's letter has proved to open these doors.
Being careful to not touch, or even make a move towards, any item on display, Shinwa allows the ji-samurai to show him his wares, fingering the card in his pocket as the benefits and drawbacks of each model are all explained to him.
