"Does it matter if it is a Radiant Katana or a blunt and poorly made Kana when it is swung in the hands of a master, Itsuki-san?" Dae-Jung replied, his voice clearly neutral. It was important his fellow Shiba learned from this, but he clearly already felt ashamed for his failure, "It has been centuries since we had a war of honor with the Mantis, yet we must never forget the lessons Yoritomo no Kami taught us about Hubris in the face of those with supposed inferior warriors or technology."
After a moment he continued, his tone warmer, "However I agree with your assessment, if for different reasons. The World of Dreams points directly at the Scorpion, as does the Geisha link, and the Scorpion if anything are masters of misdirection. It far too simple a mistake for the Scorpion to make it." Of course the idea thats a double-bluff did occur to them all, but with so little information, going down that rabbit hole was a path to madness.
The Asako waits for a second, not wanting to interrupt, before she said, "Regardless, if your duty required you to preform such a task, then as long as you took the necessary precautions, and treated the kami with respect, your path was clear and no fault can be found in your actions. Hackers have existed as long as their have been computers to hack, and the use of programs to confuse, trick and lie to the kami just as long. The fault is with those who would make and use such insidious pieces of code. Please, if you will, can you please lead me to the main terminal of the system?"
The Agasha addressing the rest of the group, "And...if someone would lead me to the engine room, Minna-samma." A touch of nervousness was in his voice, but the grin never left his face.

Itsuki says nothing else, bowing low and avoiding everyone's gaze as he turns and leads the way to the true terminal in his quarters. Once there, he quietly states, "It should be noted of course that the activity was done on the bridge, and we still have the probe aboard, if you are willing to take a look at it."
As for the others, Kiru nods at the question about the engine room, and turns to Nanashi. "Will Nanashi show friends to the engine room? Kiru needs to conjure more fruit."

Nanashi smwluld have spoken up sooner but the actions of the Pilot had TOTALY surprised him.
He leans down to Kiru. "Capt. You should tell them it was I who caused all this. Itsuki-San is taking the blame for no reason. I treated the Kami with as much respect as I do all the systems I work on but you should admonish me in front of these Phoenix. There isn't any reason to hurt his reputation when mine is expendable."

Kiru nods to indicate he has understood Nanashi's whispered words, then says conversationally, so that all nearby can easily hear, "Kiru probably should. But Kiru makes a point of not solving the conflicts of Kiru's friends for them."

The Shiba goes with the Asako, as both follow Itsuki "Given that the probe was responsible for this in the first place, I would like to see what allowed it to do so, and if it aids in your duty then all the Phoenix benefit." The Asako replied to Itsuki's comment, "As for the Bridge, I shall have to take a look, and certainly it will need the kami appeased at the site of the...infection... but the main terminal should give me access to most areas of the ship, and if the hack reached the main terminal it needs to be purged from there first. The last thing we need is it trying to deactivate the life support systems or something similar."
Reaching the main terminal he begins to set up a shrine, "I don't suppose you can tell me how the intrusion happened. While Agasha-san tends to focus more on the experimental side of our duties then the religious side, his family long ago came up with different prayers and offering to appease the kami depending on what type of hack or virus occurred and how the intrusion originally happened. It will save us time if she already knows what happened when she gets here."
Meanwhile, in the cargobay with the best engine acess.
The Agasha, while less nervous once she was away from her superior, remained silent for the trip to the back of the ship. This changed the instant she saw Nanashi's bike.
"Thats a Mirumoto Daisho...." She blinks, rubs her eyes and looks at the bike again, as if confirming its existence, "I...." She takes a step towards the bike, "That bike, is the only bike to beat a Kushuud made bike in the DoK Championship in the last decade. It set new records for speed on at least 5 tracks, and made the lead engineer of the Moto racing team admit that sometimes other clans had good ideas when designing racing vehicles. Not even the Mantis Sando got them to admit that, and it was the first race craft that could travel equally well in air and water.. "
She paused and added, "Well, not this bike exactly achieved all that, this bike has to be its street legal cousin, right? No, surely not. There is no way I just stumble across the greatest machine on wheels the Tamori have ever made, in the middle of the void of Space. That would be silly." She was forcing herself to restrain herself as she said that bit, but it quickly fell away after a moment, "But its the same pedigree, and thats all that matters. Even ignoring the inability to ride it in here, surely I can experience something..... maybe if I can get my tools..."
She turned and looked at Nanashi, bowing low, "Forgive me, Mirumoto-san. I have no intention of stealing clan secrets, I want to make that clear, and I do understand my duty here. My tools will not go near the Daisho. You have my word." Her attempts at apologizing for her shameful reaction and her implication are ruined by her wistfulness as she says the bikes name.

"It is perhaps best to show you, so that you know directly from the kami's view," Itsuki replies furtively. He reaches a hand, as well as his very soul out to his air spirit companion, asking it not with words, but just his mental request, that it show to them the method by which the hacking occurred, but concealing the involvement of Mirumoto Nanashi.

Nanashi looks the girl up and down. Impressed and amused. At the comments about his bike being street legal he hides a spark in his eyes.
"My bike is legal to be on the streets if that's what you mean."
But she can drive just as fast, if not faster.
He ignores her minor breaches of manners.
"It's name is Kiba. Kiba has a minor AI if you wish to make sure that it isn't infected as well."
I know damned well that it's fine. But this is interesting.

((OOC: Oops. I just realised I accidentally switched Ruri's and Jaedong's genders last post. Lack of sleep is a bad time to post.))
Watching with a frown the Asako shook her head but makes no comment, although she clearly disapproves, "A simple error, but a costly one. I don't like it. While most clans do not consider defensive hacking dishonorable, most clans would be more obvious about it. Layering it behind a secret narrows things down...I am not sure who would do this though."
Shrine set up, the Asako begins to look through the system, it quickly becoming clear that Nanashi did in fact block or clear out all remaining worms on the system, "Despite your errors, Shiba-san, you have recovered well. Not a trace remains of the original hack." She frowns, "Based on what I have found, most of the attack was based around finding a location. The fact you are in the Void of Space helps you significantly in that regard. Still, they should have gotten a trace by now. So either they failed to get your location, or...what?" She trailed off. "I don't like it. Something doesn't feel right. This doesn't make sense."
With that in mind she searches again, trying to find a better result, something that would explain the hacks lack of response. Coming up clean once more, she said to the two Shiba, "You seek out the location of an enemy force...but don't engage. Why?"
Dae-Jung, replied, "To try and track their next move. Magnetic trackers can be sent through Open the Way and attach to the Ship. However a Phoenix Ship would detect that spell being cast. Perhaps they just wanted Ship ID to determine what Clan controlled the Ship and tried to hide it."
Ruri nodded and turned to Itsuki, seeking the other Shiba's opinion.
Jaedong paused at the offer, clearly considering it, before muttering under his breath, "Duty first, technological marval second. Duty first, technological marvel second. Duty first, technological marvel second."
After saying it for the third time, he approached the hatch to the engine, opening it and leaning inside, "Still, Mirumoto-san, its a surprise to see you here with that beauty. A pleasant one mind you, but a surprise none the less. I don't suppose there is a story behind that?" He paused and said, "I don't suppose you would mind turning off isolator 2, 3 and 5 over there would you?" He said pointing to the power board nearby, not even looking out of the engine bay as he did so.
Reaching for his tools, be began to look the engine over. In all likelihood nothing was wrong physically, but it wouldn't be the first time some viral worm had overloaded an engine component.

"In all fairness, our relative location could be determined, but not our exact one, particularly as the captain has recently employed a mujina spirit to bolster our cloaking capabilities. And the scanners did not detect any Opening of the Way except yours."
He lowers his voice, in case others are listening. "Since the captain and Shinwa-san liberated those Nezumi a while ago, identification pings and requests have become more frequent in non-Phoenix territory. This might be irrelevant, but I suspect the Scorpion who lost their slaves is trying to find a flight pattern in order to hunt us down when we are in her trap. A Yogo, from what the kami told me."

Ruri nodded on hearing Itsuki's response, "The nature of such an attack would never give exact location, and thus, to fly to the nothing between worlds was the right call. Searching a planetary orbit is hard...but not impossible. Searching the nothing for a single ship with only a moment to determine location...an impossible task, even for the likes of the Scoprion."
She considered the rescue, before she said, "As for the Scorpion, there is little we can do. Your actions strengthened the alliance we have with the Nezumi, something that most of the Phoenix appreciate. But with tension as high as it is with the Scorpion, all we can suggest is avoiding them. We have managed to remain free of the conflicts that consume the Empire since the War of the Tao and the other clans respect such a record of peace. But should the Shiba march to war...next court the Lion may decide that the battle field will serve their purposes better, and the days where we can study in peace may come to an end."
Finishing up with the computer for now, but leaving the shrine for when the Agasha has finished in the engine room, Ruri said, "Well lets see if we can find out anything from this mysterious Probe."

Itsuki nods appreciatively. "Hai, please allow me to take you to it."
As he leads the way, he sees Kiru step into stride beside him wordlessly. He offers the captain a nod and continues on his path, wondering what the shaman's interest in the probe might be.
"Kakashi asked for this probe as Kakashi's wage this month, and will waive payment next month if Kiru lets Kakashi visit home to show Kakashi's friends. A probe in the prank-joke-falsehood realm would be amusing."
