"I am hoping that we can find some leads in the information we find about Asahina Hana herself. But if we can't...there are the Agasha. The Yogo. Others. We can explore that further too. But Kiru-san is not feeling well right now. I do not want to disturb him until he is ready.". He pauses and continues. We're you able to record the scans on the ship, Shiba-san? We might be able to discern something about it from those, if only the class and hull configuration."

"All data except that from my personal computer is stored for analysis by my superiors, hai. Asahina Hana must surely be the Dark Oracle of Water...I don't believe Oracles tread near their own Covenant if they can help it. It would be too obvious a lead for anyone wishing to exploit their power to follow."

"I could take a look at the probe," Tetsuko suggested, "see what can be found."

"I think you are right...the Dark Oracle of Water...but the Oracle of water said that she could tell us far more than he could. And she took the position to try to limit the damage of the previous dark oracle." He reads from another section of the notebook.
"Asahina Hana took this position upon slaying her predecessor, believing she would be able to limit the damage the Dark Oracle did. If anything remains of that honorable Shugenja, there is a chance she can help you, if you can free her from something far more difficult then simply ice. Alternatively, the right paperwork will influence all beings. Finding such a form is a task few Otomo would dare go looking for however. Or you could try a different avenue...such an event leaves signs, if you know where to look. A risky proposition, but one that is possible."
"Learning more about who she used to be will help tell us where she was at when she took the role and help us influence her. It will also give us a chance to learn when she took that role. If she took it just before the Seogeku was released, she may not have had time to move the contract either. Considering the reason she took the role, she may have even tried to search for the contract herself first."
He kneels back and thinks quietly for a few moments. "Unless there is a way to tackle the information about where this contract is more directly. Even then, it may be helpful to know more of the person behind the Oracle if it can be found. It might be easier to find than a clan's secret shame."

Nanashi comes in. He has no shirt on and a towel around his shoulders. His bald head gleaming with water. He appears to have recently showered.
"I heard most of the conversations. Have we thought about trying some Spider junkyards? They were traitors in the distant past before the reign of the Dragon Emperors."

"Nanashi-san might be right, but it should be noted that if we intend to visit Spider territory at all, we will need a different ship. The captain tried explaining the Nezumi concept of honour once, and I didn't quite understand it...but killing Spider on sight is still considered one of the most honourable deeds to Nezumi. It is right up there with saving a child, of all things."

"I...may have a suggestion," said Tetsuko, sounding a little hesitant as she spoke. "If we set course for Kyuden Hida Prime, we may be able to get assistance from my Clan. They would be very interested in what we have discovered." She was clearly uncomfortable with making such a suggestion, though no one could be sure why.

Shinwa considers that while stripping off his coat. He's going to need to cleanse that of tentacle goo for certain very shortly. Patching Kaiden up was more important.
"It is an option to keep open. However, I cannot imagine the Crab would wish to keep such information secret. Large scale mobilization would begin. We might find our ability to maneuver and return severely curtailed. If it is only the researching resources of a great clan we need, then obviously we can return with this information to the Phoenix Inquisitors that sent us. And that may be something we should do. I was just hoping we might be able to gather more information on Asahina Hana as a person before we decided we had exhausted all our other leads."
He contemplates. "We could also use the skills of an excellent astronomer." He flips to another page of his notebook. "Nanashi-san's question was admirably direct. Even though it probably ended up giving the Dark Oracle the opportunity to provide an answer to a very big question in return, we must not waste what we have been given." He reads, "The rift you seek is located on a world of awesome size, not touched by the light of Amaterasu. It is an invisible titan in space, one of countless others, however unlike all others this one is covered in thick black forests and jagged mountains and deep, turbulent oceans, all invisible from orbit due to its nature. Due to how that life lives. As such it is life when it should be dead, and thus the rift seeks to make it like all others of its kind, to let chaos consume that which requires perfect balance to remain.
It is far from the all consuming darkness that is at the heart of the Galaxy, and yet, closer than Rokugan is to it. Left alone it will drift between two stars too small and unimportant to be named, invisible and impossible or reach unless you already know where it is. For how does one spot what one cannot see, how does one find the invisible, how does one track kami that have never felt the warmth of a star, nor felt the grace of Tengoku. A small yellow light glows distantly, a tiny flicker of hope, a home once, but now long gone, and slowly getting further and further away."
"So the rift is between Rokugan and the center of the galaxy, moving away. That is a vector. There is enough here for a good astronomer to perhaps tell us more."

"The Crab have an ancestral duty to protect against such threats, Shinwa-san," said Tetsuko, her voice tight with impatience. "I know the Phoenix have set us upon this path, but I doubt their ability to deal with it as it should. And I doubt their intentions." She folded her arms, daring anyone at the table to challenge her.

Shinwa quietly sets aside his coat. Below it he is wearing a boring black gi.
"And what, Hida-sama, do you believe the intentions of the Phoenix to be?" His voice is perfectly calm and even and controlled. Too much so.
Nanashi has heard him speak that way before. At Benjiro's End.

The ship lurches to a sudden stop, gravity fluctuating at this unexpected halt.
On the bridge, Itsuki activates the cloaking device, before disengaging his commlink to the lounge.
Then he goes to his quarters without saying a word, intending to sleep. Clearly he must be hallucinating.

"I don't presume," said Tetsuko, and that was all she would say on the matter. "What is clear to me is this: we are in need of knowledge on the Segoka and an astronomer. We are in need of a new ship to seek them out. My Clan can provide this." She says this as a matter-of-factly, as if she expects her words to be followed and not questioned.

Rik has absolutely no idea what is going on, but he picks up on pheromones exuding from the humans in the room.
He makes himself scarce by returning to Kiru's room, watching over his sad-sick friend.
Kakashi doesn't know what is going on, either, but the ship just stopped, that's for sure. The corgi slips out of view, off to check on the bridge. Finding it empty, he grumble-barks softly to himself, knowing the Shiba's room is warded against his entry. "Better make the ship extra invisible, then!"
He waddles, invisible, out through the tempered glass, and hides the ship in an even greater illusion than is already cast upon it, before proceeding to swim in a 2km radius around The Warren, summoning illusory asteroids as he does so to make a nest of safety from approaching vessels. What fun!

"The Phoenix sponsored this mission and this ship flies under Phoenix colors. If you do not trust the intentions of the Phoenix, then you do not trust the purpose of this mission or the intentions of those who have been sent on this mission with you. If you own the words you have spoken, then you should speak to them. Otherwise, your honor should prevent you from continuing on a mission of ill intent. In which case, you should return to Crab space. I am sure we can find a place to drop you off safely."
Shinwa remains calm and serious, but there is no doubt he would not hesitate to do so.
