The system temporarily named Imperial Exploration 2635-d was largely calm. The Red Dwarf hung in the sky, calmly illuminating the system, or what little that was in the system. An Asteroid Belt, 3 Ice Giants and a rocky planet. However closer examination of the rocky planet reveals something strange. The information they had gotten said that it would be covered in water, with a few volcanic islands on the surface. The world they found instead was completely frozen over, a land of ice, a frozen ocean covered world with vast flat plains broken by crevasses and here and there by rough and sharp mountains of ice, as if two plate of Ice had collided as they expanded, forcing water to rise in the narrow game and the ice to twist and buckle between them as it froze. ((OOC: Welcome to Europa....kinda. ))

Nanashi had been up for awhile. Working on improving the Camel. The smell of greas, lubricant and metal fill the space. A metal song plays through the space. A Spider band that Nanashi couldn't ever remember he name of. The music clicks over to a Scorpion band. "The Scarlett's, 2989" says Nanashi. Kakashi dances around the room. Spectral doggy drool flying everywhere. Curse words and thuds interject the music. "Wrench." Comes the voice from behind the metal. Kakashi picks it up in his mouth and passes it to Nanashi before resuming his dancing.

"Senchou, we have arrived," Itsuki says over the commlink to Kiru, who is just now stirring among his many pillows in his cabin.
"Notify everyone, Kiru will head to the bridge and relieve Itsuki shortly. Must be tired."
"Hai, Senchou." The commlink cuts out.
"Rik!" Kiru calls, standing up and moving to the wall to wash his face.
The sugar glider darts down from the netting above, landing on Kiru's shoulder. "Goodnight, Kiru," he yawns before settling himself inside Kiru's scarf to sleep.
Once he feels suitably clean, Kiru dries off, retrieves and holsters his Koiso MkV pistol, and leaves the cabin, stopping by the garden to fetch two cucumbers to crunch on as he enters the bridge, where a weary Shiba Itsuki sits at the main navigation console.
"I was just about to put us in orbit, Senchou," Itsuki explains. "Figured you would want to do an orbital scan before we enter atmosphere. No signs of anyone else around, but shields are at maximum just in case. Didn't seem worth lowering them for cloaking considering we have another ship attached to us."
"Hai. Go sleep, Itsuki." Kiru takes the Shiba's seat and inspects the console. "Oh, and when Itsuki sees Ikoma, ask Ikoma to detach so The Warren can cloak."
Itsuki doesn't respond, instead bowing to the centre of the bridge, showing respect to the ship's kami, and then retreating back to his shared quarters. What is Kiru playing at? he wonders not for the first time.
Arriving at his cabin, the closest one to the bridge, he knows and then enters. "Ikoma-san, ohayou gozaimasu," Itsuki intones awkwardly, hurrying to his half of the room. "The captain has asked, when you are ready, to please detach from the ship so we can safely activate our cloaking measures. It might be helpful to have two ships scanning the surface of the planet, too."

Tetsuko enters the cockpit, she is dressed in her armour and carries her helmet in one hand. She looked through the main viewport at the planet below. Cold, icy, uninvting. She sat on one of the seats behind the pilot and co-pilot's, watching what they were to do next.

In his unconventional way, Kiru utters something in the Nezumi language while shaking his wrists with open palms (jazz hands!). Seconds later, he sees the spectral image of an Isawa shugenja sitting exactly where he is, typing into the console and analysing the blank screen. If Shinwa is awake, he also sees an anonymous, spectral Isawa shugenja, standing near Shinwa and muttering indistinctly over a datapad in her hand. If Shinwa is still asleep, said Isawa enters his dream, instead. "Arigatou, Isawa," Kiru comments with a grin as he uses this inspiration to activate the ship's scanners, taking readings of life signs, atmospheric data, and even trajectory and velocity of the planet's orbit around the red dwarf, just in case the surface freezing was a temporary condition. (OOC: Cast Name Talent (Computing 4) success and then Computing/Water to scan the planet from orbit, 2 raises called, 44, meaning 34.)

Shinwa is just finishing getting dressed in his quarters and splashing water on his face when the ghostly form of the Isawa shugenja shows up. He turns and assesses her frankly. It is not long after that that the wave of knowledge of computers enters his mind.
He considers that, and the power of the ship's scanners, before heading up to the bridge.
He arrives at the bridge munching on an apple. "Do you want to read over the outputs too, Kiru-san?" he asks. "I can look for other anomalies from the technical station."
He does not say it aloud, but M'thack-kir knows the unspoken subtext: If you are willing to take the risk.

Kiru considers that a moment.
We aren't in immediate danger...
"Hai, please do, Shinwa. Best to have more than just Kiru examining the data."

The music coming from down the hall starts to steadily get louder for those in the bridge before blaring into the room and then retreating down the other hall. .
Nanashi comes running behind the music. Greasy and hunched over. "Nonononono, not my music. Drop it. Kakashi Drop it or no treats." Nanashi's voice fades down the other hall as he follows the fleeing spirit.
If one were to listen closely the sound of doggy panting laughter might be heard behind the music.

Shinwa nods, and heads down to the technical station to see if he can find perceive any anomalies in the data the scanners have returned. He sits down and reviews the information. There are others better at this than he, for certain. Hopefully it wouldn't hurt to try. He pours over the results, pushing the power of the ships computer into the information combined with what had already been found. Fortunately, nothing goes wrong for him. It is a contribution to the scanning effort at least. <OOC: orokos.com/roll/525602 = 40 (1 raise=35)> When he's done, his head hurts, but he prints out a map of areas of interest and brings it back to Kiru. "This will serve for my specialty...looking for things that are strange or unusual. That do not fit the story. But the others on board might have their specialties that they may contribute for a scan, if they have skill with the computer."

While the original planet's data did not include how close or how far away the planet orbited the Sun, however from its current orbit was not particularly Eccentric and as such the ice is largely permanent. Life was abundent below the Ice, however their was only 2 Signitures above the Ice, although one of them was barely their. They were both right next to each other, although the area was in one of the most complex mazes of ice spires. Flying the ship through their would be...inadvisable.
The Atmosphere was completely breathable, a stroke of luck that, although the orbital period was quite short, the world spinning quite rapidly. This combined with the red dwarf star meant the day was longer then the night, although both were short, with 4 hours of daylight and 5 hours of night. The world also seemingly lacked a moon, which meant they didn't have to worry about the Tides interfering with the Ice.
Shinwa also noticed something. The computer suggests liquid water is stable at this orbital position, something which the life signs below the ice clearly supports. Now its frozen over, the ice is reflecting most of the suns rays, cooling the planet, but the more important question was how it froze. The Red Dwarf was remarkably stable, the scan suggesting it has been burning like this likely since the Universe was ordered, and will continue to burn like this long after most stars have stopped burning. The Atmopshere of the world is also stable, and if anything the small amount of volcanic activity should be heating the world not cooling it.
So...how did a world covered almost entirely in liquid oceans freeze in 2 years?

Kiru frowns at the data reading.
"Something is wrong, here. Once Ikoma has detached from The Warren, we will have to descend and investigate more closely."

The music suddenly stops. Nanashi walks into the bridge. Holding up his music player he says "got it."
He sees the two thinking and asks. "Camels almost done. What are we looking at?"

"The planet is frozen, with free flowing ocean beneath. There is no justifiable reason for this to be the case. Also, life signs down within a tangled forest of ice spires. Hard to get to—a veritable fortress of solitude for anyone who wishes to remain alone-alone"
Kiru swivels his chair to look at Nanashi. "Our first destination, Kiru thinks. But it would be unwise to take The Warren..."
His eyes light up.
"...unless The Warren submerges and travels under the surface, avoiding the dangerous ice shards entirely. M'thack-kir wants others' opinions before a decision is made."
He swivels the chair back to face the console and pushes a button that actives the ship's internal speakers to address all members of the expedition, "Mina-mina report to the Bridge."

Shinwa brings a printout of the results of his assessments just in time to hear Nanashi and Kiru. He passes over the sheets. "Some of those life-signs are faint. The Warren might be able to reach the location, but if it emerges at the sight on top of the snows, it will destroy everything...and everyone there. We need to scout the location, and then decide. If the Camel is about ready, we can scout, and then Ikoma-san and the Warren will be available to provide cover-fire, or even close down the ice spires behind us, if what the scouts discover are determined to be hostile. The light radiant guns should be able to take down the spire walls without difficulty."
He considers. "If a life sign is faint because there is a victim there...or witness....we should not delay."
