I would personally much prefer three time slots in a day to two. This is largely because I need to use one time slot per day in my quarters, doing secret Nezumi stuff ...this activity also impacts on another member of my crew, so rather than Kiru being only available for one time slot per day and his crew buddy being available for two time slots minus one hour partway through (for weird secret Nezumi reasons ), it'd be much better if we had the three time slots please Emerald. I find the Rokugani calendar too tricky myself to memorise, so can I suggest that threads on the day after our party plot start threads be known as Day 1 Morning/Arvo/Evening? once we have the time slots sorted propearly, I dare say we will also experience a higher post rate, as those who can be online more can arrange more posting time with others in their party, too :3 ((Edit: and for ease of travel's sake and IC planning, when a ship starts out for its destination we will need Emerald to give us the expected ETA so we know how long we have to prepare. Kiru, for example, has several spells that take hours to cast...)

The purpose of Timeslots in this case Shinwa, is not so much multiple threads running at once, but to keep some level of consistent time between the parties. There is no need for a new thread for these slots...
But lets say you and our Tortoise both end up on the same planet and want to do a thread together in downtime. Knowing that you are both internally consistent time wise means you don't have to go, "Wait... are we free at the same time?" It also avoids time paradoxes, like if you have a second meeting in what is 5 days time for one player and only 3 for another.
So I should possibly call it 'time progression' rather then time slot.
And Yozhiko, its important to understand I am not allowed to post at work...at all. Period. MAYBE I can rush out a post in my break, but its a fireable offense to bring my phone onto the work floor, and none of the computers have Internet access. Add in sleep and I have only about 8 hours a day I can post...which due to changing my sleep schedule, is divided into two 4 hour blocks.
The game isn't going to speed up (at least on my end. You of course can have GM free scenes that happen quickly), and what you are suggesting means that you spent an entire day having a meeting with the Dragon Clan Champion.
Finally, does my re-explanation as time progression rather then timeslot relieve any concerns I generated Kiru?

I believe so :3 Although I'm personally still all for multiple threads running at once, too But I guess those of us wanting that should be able to do that regardless~

How about this: Start a sticky Time Thread that tracks dates and time block? This is free form and progressing, and we're split neatly into three groups, at least for now, so if we get off synch on days, we can track there and you, as GM, can stick in a delay if need be to get people parred up
Then we just refer back to the timeblocks.
For those things that go by session, mark the end of a session in the same table.
Sometimes, you may want 'three days of research to go by' for a group, with people split up and making summary posts of the kinds of things they're doing, while for a different group, they may have a long and intense fight that takes minutes in 'game time' and a full week or more real time, even with everyone trying as hard as they can to keep it moving.
It seems like it would be easiest to let them get off synch.
Ideally, new threads at the start of the thread would have a reference to the date/session that it occurred.
Just an idea.

I'm easy, either way. Having a way to track thread times will be useful once our groups start overlapping. It all depends on how long you want the game to go, emeralddragon.

I guess I somehow miscommunicated what I wanted to say. I never suggested that at all. I just stated my view on in game/irl time model. My main "disagreement" was that one slot one week is too slow. What I suggested was one in game day (3 timeslots), irl should be open one week for posting. I also feel that they can all be active simultaneously. That does not mean that one irl week is everything we did within a day. Of course the meeting with the Dragon Champion did not last a day. We had to cover irrelevant stuff (praying, bio stuff, landing, transport to and from the spaceport), which are not worth a thread, but we can all assume that we spent time on. My toon even had also a thread that same day (in order to prepare wards and activate Air Kami's blessing). PS: Normally my work would have same restrictions.

What troubles me with a slot-period of time that small (8 or 12 hours) taking up a whole irl week is pretty much what Shinwa mentioned. There will be times that in the same group people will need to do things with completely different duration. Imagine the following scenarion:
In a group the shugenja needs to study let's say for a day (3 irl weeks), the artisan has to prepare a gift for the group to present in their first destination from morning till afternoon (2 irl weeks), while the rest of the group have to land on a planet and investigate. This could go as following:
-Shugenja: 3 irl weeks with 1 thread which mostly involves rolls.
-Artisan: 2 irl weeks with 1 thread which mostly involves rolls. 1 irl week for a 2nd thread.
-The rest of the group: 3 irl weeks to interact with each other and investigate the planet in 3 different threads
I think that something like the above would displease the two first players. And let's be honest if someone has to spend 3 irl weeks in the fashion of the shugenja's player, interest in the game would be quickly lost.
Instead I would suggest the following:
-Introduction -Misson 1 -Downtime 1 -Mission 2 -Downtime 2 . . . . -Aftermath
For the introduction, the downtimes and the aftermath, the gm decides how many in game and irl days will give for each section just before the section for each group begins. The players can make threads freely, but they have to mark the exact day and time of the thread. Plus they have to accept the simple fact that time wraps SHOULD not happen. We are all adults and, as far as I know, seasoned players. We can watch out for ourselves and the game for our own enhanced gaming experience. Travelling to and from the planets that the missions take place will probably be in these sections.
The missions will be more controlled by the gm and the players cannot make their own threads without clear permission from the gm.
If something is not clear, I can explain things further. I and Hajime's player have played like that in another game that was of a similar type with gm controlled missions and downtimes and it was working quite well.

I can confirm what Kailen is saying about downtimes and it really did work very well. The GM divided the game in Acts and it was usually something like: Day 1 had an introduction 'official' thread where important stuff happened and after that he would give us a range of days (like D1 to D7) that where we could do whatever we wanted, as long as we marked the day and timeslot.

Flag to Emerald:
I have some general questions about the interaction of grappling and shields related to our upcoming combat, and vehicle shields in general.
1) If a radiant shield is over a vehicle and its occupants but the occupants are not enclosed within the vehicle (Open top car/bike/etc), can the occupants shoot /out/ of the shield? Does the shield protect those outside the shield as much as those inside? Does doing so damage the shield? 2) If a radiant shield vehicle has been successfully grappled, is the thing doing the grappling that is attached to the craft inside the shield or outside the shield? How would that interact with the answer to 1? 3) If an environmental shield-bearing vehicle has been successfully grappled, does that automatically destroy the environmental effect by making a leak in the shield?
This shouldn't be too bad for this world, since we can take down the shield, get super cold, but still survive. But I'd like to know before describing responses for those of us not privileged enough to wear vacuum-proof armor.

A lot of my Sci-fi views are based on a mix of star wars and warhammer 40k (mostly the former) and as such, when asked about this my mind instantly went to Droidekas. So, with that in mind. 1) Shield generators are designed to allow you to shoot out of. I recognize the idea of a 1 way energy fields is literally kicking science in the teeth, but for Scifi I will allow such things to happen. Blame the kami. 2)Excluding Bushi armor, and a few very VERY unique ships, Radiant Shields are an energy field around the ship like a bubble. Anything grabbing the vessel is passing through the energy field and in the long term will likely begin to suffer burns from doing so. The reason Bushi armor is the exception is two fold. a)Because it keeps the importance of ancestral traditions in place. If the shield was around the armor, and the armor didn't block the weapon but the shield did, it would imply that the designs of the ancestors are inferior to modern creation. By weaving it through they can continue the line, "The ancestors are superior...we may have improved the armor, but they still created it." b)It means I don't have to explain why, even with the new materials and radiant energy in the armor, a Hida Sumo can still punch you in the chest and have it do damage. If the shield is part of the armor, the fist doesn't have to go through an energy field and THEN hit armor, its just punching armor that contains an energy field.

If it is taking ongoing burns I'm going to assume the answer to my third question is No and the environmental effect is still in play within the bubble (if somewhat taxed). No sudden leaks of flooding the cabin with liquid ammonia or something.

I may have missed this, but the "Once Per Session" mechanics renew every time we get XP, right?
