The creature makes a clicking noise in the back of its throat, akin to a growl for their kind, "Not the Ide some of the Tortoise have mentioned in the past I take it then. Still, you misunderstand the relationship. As much as I would love you to meet our employers, to see what your empire is up against, to finally meet those who have walked over your precious Emperor's restrictions for centuries, and to feel the horror your faith can truly inflict on someone...thats not how this works. We get contacted, we get paid, we follow instructions. Now if you actually had something to offer, I could tell you what I know, perhaps..." the Zenijin considered it, "Of course, I could just take everything from the ships when you are my prisoners...but so much is lost and wasted that way."
Concentrating on the here and now, the Zenjin added, "So really you have two options. You listen to me, or you don't listen at all. That hardly matters to me or my crew, we have already been paid for that part."
As Ketaan looks at the ships, while its hard to tell, given the differences in technology and thought process, given the amount of weapons on those ships, they had to be sacrificing something for it. They were either Slow, or glass cannons, and almost certainly the latter. Either way, a long fight would not be good for those ships and they would likely use targeted assaults to try and take out the larger threat should it come to a fight. It was a tactic the Unicorn were familiar with. But still, something felt off about it all. ((OOC: Roll either Battle or Material Science))
The spell goes off without a hitch, and the kami are convinced to return the scanners to normal. As the code runs through the ship, the Zenijin glares at them all, "So, do you have anything at all worthy of offering or shall I get on with this foolish formality."

"All I have to offer immediately is genuine Rokugani-Made plates, bowls, tea-sets and chopsticks from the heart of the Empire. Items sought after by collectors both within our empire and outside its borders. Any unfortunate violence will surely destroy their value, their delicate facades chipped or broken outright." Naosuko transmits a single picture of a beautiful teacup made of porcelain, molded in an ancient rokugani style with a vein of golden material running through a crack down its side. "Some of them are quite old as well." "Though, I'm not sure if you would be able to realize their true value." Naosuko frowns, "That market is not like selling salvage or melting down components for their rare elements." Upsell the crockery's value. Commerce/Awareness: 6d10o10k4 39

The creature seemed to laugh, "You wish me to believe a merchant like yourself couldn't secure a cargo to make it safe from pirates?" The weapons on the enemy ships began to power up, "Admittedly, damaged Rokugani Porcelain is all but impossible to repair, but surely you know the risks of running into pirates out here. Either you don't have it or you have it secured far better then you would have me believe."
There was a pause, "Although I must thank you for you telling me what to search for should your ship be rendered inoperable in the coming fight. Still, I suppose I must get this stupid Monologue out of the way."
Pausing for a moment the Zenijin spoke again, "Two Lotus were there in the beginning. Two Lotus there will be in the end. The true purity of wisdom in each, with infinite roads to both. Yet you scorn our Lotus, our path, use your purity, your wisdom to snuff us out. And yet in our so called madness, we still managed to survive and thrive. Hiding in the Shadows, the darkness within the light. Yet true night comes for you all, your Lotus will yet be snuffed out. And darkness shall reign forever more, and madness shall be our sun. So die now mortal Samurai, knowing no more then you did before, except to recognize an ancient foe, has returned to kill you all."
The fighters pealed away from the main craft, seemingly with far to perfect a symmetry for mortal hands to guide, and began to move to attack the Samurai ships.
"Good bye Samurai-chan. I had hoped we could have done this the more profitable way for all our sakes."

Ketaan's wicked grin fades to a small grimace as the opponents' vessels drop into the loose attack formation. Too close. If we hadn't waited, but now? Too close. Fine. The hard way then.He taps his coms, and his voice rings sure and clear to his comrades. "Vanguard, preemptive strike. Flow and crash, flare." "Roger," Ariel and Tai-Wen respond straight through instinct as Ketaan's ship pulls out of formation. He drops rapidly, the glow from his engines blasting to brilliant, blinding light, as he swirls through the void. For a moment, his backdraft is one with the still-nearby brilliant star, and it becomes impossible to make out exactly where his ship is. The next heartbeat, he is once again visible... But how the heck did he get to the side of the entire attacking squadron? ((OOC: Dice are correct, but accidentally wrote Int rather than Agility.)) From there, he surveys his prey with all the menacing aspect of a diving falcon, and time seems to slow in his cockpit as he flicks through the not-quite-safe sequence of switches that trigger a powerful surge through the Koshuud modifications the riddle the ship. The asymmetrical conduits and power lines burst to life as the navigation system becomes overclocked to its maximum capacity, and despite his seemingly reckless assault, the ship responds with an almost instinctual ease that makes his profile a daunting target to lock on to. ((Full Attack Stance, 4 Overcharges to Navigation. Total TN adjustment: +10, 30 total. Rounds to Overheat: 3)) The angle is not ideal, but it will get a few of the chitinous pirates without clipping his teammates. Which is ever so slightly important. More importantly, there is the off chance that they will just give up after an overwhelming display of force. They are not true predators. Merely scavengers, playing at being brave. Show any scavenger that you are at the top of the food chain, and that will often be sufficient. And thanks to the power of the kami flowing through him, he can take just such a shot. ((OOC: Silent Waters, Stand Against The Waves discharges.)) The crackling whine of the weapon charging up is only heard within the vessel itself, but out in the void, any of those unfortunates who do not comprehend that their last moments have come might see the conduits deploying arcing coils along the length of the Baraunghar. They would not know that the energy being excited along path of those coils would be roughly the same strength as a sizable solar flare, not unlike the one that threatened the erstwhile deputies not long ago. Of the Magistrate-tasked fleet, it would not be until the weapon fired that they would be able to put a name to the sight. Even then, only those cursed with a military rank and experience would know what to call the rolling wave of devastation that washes over the ranks of the pirates. Daitsuchi. Attack 54 ((OOC: Damage: Primary target 65, Splash damage 38, Secondary Targets +100ft 31, Tertiary Targets +200ft 20. Damage ignores all Reduction, Fear 3 to all the Enemies.)

As soon as the blinding light of the energy surge dies down, Ariel is leaping into action. There is only so much time the enemy will be staggered before they will regain their footing, but such time can be used to put them further off guard. If the others will deal with the fighters, then Ariel will inconvenience the Corvette. Or try anyway. Like Ketaan, he whips his Navigation system into a frenzy of easy response, the Koshuud modifications flaring to life. ((OOC: Attack Stance, 3 Overcharges to Navigation. Total TN: 40) Not quite so flashy as Ketaan's absurd strike, the Ion Cannon that whips forth from Ariel's Baraunghar lances for the Corvette while it is still blind from the sudden assault. The bolt seeks the engines, to what effect remains to be seen. Called shot to the Engines, 25 ((If hit, enemy ship rolls Earth TN 25 or system is disabled for 5 rounds.))

Finishing the ritual, the small blips of the enemy ships began popping up on various screens. Enshiro gave a satisfied smile. Looking out into the void, Enshiro sees the two pilots' display. "The Unicorn seem eager to end this conflict swiftly. Efficient." He nods his head in agreement.
"Evasive maneuvers. Overdrive the navigation systems." he says simply to the pilot.
"Concentrate fire on the Corvette." he commands sternly to whoever is manning the weaponry.
Enshiro stands, hands folded behind his back, awaiting the sight of his obliterated enemies.

The 8 fighters plan becomes clear very quickly, spread out in an octagonal formation to avoid area of effect fire, and then get as close to the large cruiser as possible, with the intent of making sure that any such explosive weaponary ends up hitting the Kokuyouseki Shinjitsu as well. Unfortunately for them, it was a tactic the Unicorn used quite frequently, and as such, both the Spider and Unicorn were familiar with it. Still their was something eerie with how well they stayed to formation. Few forces could move with such precision and synchronization. "Daigotsu-sama, there is heavy coms traffic between the 9 enemy craft. We could intercept it, but I doubt we will understand what they are saying." One of the officers on the bridge said. The ships close quickly and the Unicorn attack hits them unexpected from behind. The primary target's shield instantly flair then collapse, failing under such a major hit, and then bleeding through to the hull. The remaining shields hold, but they have taken significant damage. What is odd is that the ships don't break formation. Normally the fear effect would lead to some sort of worry, some sort of reaction, even if only a little. However the ships stay in formation, despite the fact one of them lost all its shields in a single shot, and the others were weakened, likely at least half gone. The shot from the Ion cannon fizzles, striking the hide of the ship at the wrong location. Close, but not enough. Still, it certainly drew the ships attention. The fighters close on the larger vessel, and open fire as one. It quickly becomes clear that the vessel is designed not to dodge, but instead absorb the hits. Every blow hits the ship, however most are absorbed, however a few ships manage to hit the shields strongly, damaging them abut they remain stable. Finally seems to move to attack, however it seems that that ship at least felt the fear of the heavy weapon, and combined with Ariel's fighters speed, the attack misses. ((OOC: Due to me not knowing how to us the Orokos roller properly, I rolled way more then I should have. Thus, best place to look at the rolls is here: orokos.com/roll/c-Empire+of+Emerald+StarsDaigotsu-san, your shields are at 17 once regen is added in. You took quite a pounding. If you use a personal void point on the DMG roll the one that did 27 (so 13 after reduction) you'll be at 27))

Tai-Wen watches the exacting movements of the fighter squadron, then narrows her eyes as they ignore the blinding ray of plasma that rips from Ketaan's position. On a suspicion, she flicks off her coms, switches her headset to radio intercept, and rapidly twists the frequency knob. Her glare snaps open into a furious stare as a familiar whine of electronic signals fills her ears.
"Knew it! Fucking aimbots!" She spits as the formation hammers the Spider Cruiser's shields. She slaps the reset to once again seize comms, and begins firing phrases to her companions. Some in code, some in pilot or engineer's lingo, some just in entirely personalized gibberish.
"Daybreak to squad. Fighters unmanned, illegal autos. Heavy networking. AOE unlikely to be effective. Possibly indep, possibly slaved to Priority. If any of you are secretly wiredivers, now would be the time. Disrupt, scatter, ruin. Sky-Eyes, maintain Priority's attention. Vanguard, joust and eliminate. Vulture where possible. Others, pick targets based on convenience, non-electric disruption unlikely to be effective on Secondaries. Shatter them, don't scatter yourselves. Do not attempt to capture Secondaries. No retreat for Priority."
"Roger."
Her wingmates' response is as immediate as it is instinctual.

Kokishin pulls up his data pad, furiously tapping the keyboard. He'd never heard the term wire diver before, but it gave him an idea. If he could figure out a signal to confuse the opponents' ship computers, he might not be useless after all. Computers (Hacking)/Awareness, with void point (1/3 remaining) 36 orokos.com/roll/539966He is not completely sure it will work, but confident enough to try it. Finally answering Enshiro, he coolly replies, "Weapons I have no training or talent for; I'm mostly a pilot. I found something that might be useful though and shouldn't disrupt our side of the battle. Would you please instruct the appropriate crew member to broadcast this signal through the comms?" he asked, showing his data pad to Enshiro. "At worst, nothing will happen, but at best, it would disrupt the fighters' ability to communicate with one another and could prevent them from keeping formation."

Unable to much else at this point, Naosuko's ship slows and her running lights begin flashing randomly. She comes alongside the Obsidian Truth and does her best to get in the way of the formation that has formed around it, trying to use her ships volume and mass to physically disrupt their dance like an overenthusiastic drunk at a geisha house.
((OOC: 'Defense' Stance, guard action on Obsidian Truth. Let me know if you want a piloting roll.))
The public comms crackle somewhat as Naosuko's panicked voice is broadcast to everyone. "Nononononono!"
