As the small fleet of ships makes it way to the edge of the system, dealing with both flairs and asteroids as it traces the Obsidanite trail, their is a level of tension in the air. To use the sensors to trace the Obsidanite left the larger Cruiser flying largely blind and they were far to far outside Imperial Space to ever hope to have their Daisho found...if it even survived the destructive force of the star.
The Spider Crew were uncomfortable having to rely and trust the Unicorn and Tortoise to protect them. One was a Minor Clan, and the other was a historic rival. Regardless that one of the more historically minded crew tried to point out the Spider wouldn't exist in its current form without the Unicorn's aid Millennium ago, this still didn't lower the tensions.
Those raised under Shourido are not used to surrendering this much control.
"The trail is starting to thin out, Diagotsu-sama. I think we are nearing where they Opened the Way."

Full sweep. Computing/Water. Raise 6k4: 6d10o10k4 27Naosuko keeps an eye out, sending the information she gathers to the Obsidian Truth. She tries her best to keep busy, to remain alert. She plays a bit of music over the internal speakers, which dims somewhat whenever she needs to speak to her companions on the other ships.

Running the mental calculations in her head, Tai-Wen runs the scanners at the widest frequencies the little ship can manage. A fighter can't be beat for speed after all, but it's at times like these that she thinks back to the great ships she helped assemble in the final days of her time at the Academy. All the same, the sensors are running hot enough, and their artificial eyes and ears can find trails that mere mortals would be at a loss to acknowledge. 31orokos.com/roll/534726

It did not matter if the crew was uncomfortable, only that they obey. Besides, it was probably advantageous that they were on edge; the crew would be more alert and thus less likely to be caught by surprise.
"Excellent. Bring us as close as possible to the original point." Enshiro commands.
They needed to be close before he attempted to reach out to any kami that may be lingering after the Opening.

With nothing better to do than hope there isn't an accident with obsidanite, , Kokishin tries to distract himself with writing, but stays close enough at hand for Enshiro to call upon him if needed.

Both the Wake Angels and the Tortoise detect the pair of beacons ahead. They aren't Rokugani make, but its fairly clear what they are, just due to the small amount of interference between them on the sensor array.
As soon as the ships cross their path, they activate up and signal to someone that the trail of Obsidanite was followed.
How quickly this activation will be answered, or if it will be answered, thats harder to say. A jump from one system over is the typical response with such ambush tools, and can be done in seconds...
But this isn't imperial space. And waiting just one system away for days at a time does not seem like a logical military tactic.

With a click, the coms spring to life. "More of our friendly neighborhood satellites. Wherever they are, they know that we're on the trail."

"We must be on the right track then. I find it alarming, though, that we are finding more satellites. Whoever stole that station has been exceedingly clever and careful. It will be difficult if not impossible to gain the element of surprise over them."

"Are we.. playing a game here?" Naosuko asks hypothetically. "First they listen to what we are saying, but can only relay it locally. Now they check to see if we are following the path they laid out for us." If a ship could appear irritable, the Tortoise Freighter is flown noticeably so. Inside the ship, Naosuko lays in a few escape routes. She also does a deeper scan of the buoys. Buoy oh Buoy. Computers/Water. 6k4: 6d10o10k4 19

Given that she knew the locations, it was easy for Naosuko to identify the technology of the buoys. Masters of stealth these creatures were not.

"Damn, pirates." Naosuko curses over the the comms. "Eyes out, these gaijin are worse than the Mantis ever were. They'd try to sell you your own coin purse."
"However, if we can talk to them a bit, they might know what happened here." She works on her computer a bit, trying to pull up a phrase book of some sort to try to speak to these creatures if they should show up.

Enshiro nods solemnly to Naosuko's information.
"Man your battle stations, crew." the Spider commands. "We are expecting guests. Be sharp. Be ready to fire on my command."
Enshiro turns to Kokishin and asks, "Is there perhaps any chance my scanners could be reverted to their regular settings before our new friends arrive?"

"Of course, Daigotsu-sama. It should be much faster than the initial change to find traces of the obsidanite. All that was initially required was to modify the sensors to only go off if they detect a specific frequency range, the frequency range of the obsidanite. I had to find where to place that code. Taking it away again to remove the frequency filter will be simple, just a matter of deleting it or commenting it out. I'll even make a note of how to put the filter back in again if it's needed. In the meantime, do you think you will be able to perform the ritual? It would be best if we could have that done before a potential ambush." In case it's needed, 18 orokos.com/roll/535672
