"Please, I am no sama. Also, I am afraid I have no particular attachments to different planets or places in them. I move around so much, and when I have liberty to explore, I can't go touring. Few people are terribly keen on sharing a table with a nezumi. It's a shame, really, but this isn't the place to have that debate. The only place I have any real attachment to is where I was raised. My parents and I go to this sushi place on a hill where you can eat outside and there is a spectacular view of the twin moons, even during the day. It's only moderately good food, but it carries the nostalgia of childhood with it. You don't strike me as the type to like quiet places with a view. To tell the truth, I'm not either besides that one."

"Oh, we've been around," Tai-Wen confirms with a nod. "Brigand ships, the odd skirmish, Isawa's Shadow, border patrols. Surely one with command of a military vessel knows the life."
Ketaan, in a flight of attention, has already ignored Ariel's pleading glance to intervene, and has caught another conversation thread. "You really read Asahina Meiko's drivel? Come now, her sense of dramatic tension is laughable. I picked up the start of the series thinking I'd identify with the protagonist, but he never does anything interesting! It is pure solipsism attempting to pass as depth."

Kokishin is insulted at the Shinjo's uncivilized behavior, but refuses to show it. I deal with this kind of childish nonsense everywhere I go. The best way to handle these types is not to give them more fuel." Kokishin instead chooses to reply, "We all have our reading preferences, Shinjo-san. I am delighted that you have at least tried to read her books, though we must agree to disagree about the quality of their contents. Perhaps you'd like to share what you like to read. Maybe we shall find something in common?"

"Perhaps, though I do wonder. The Unicorn may not have the vast libraries that other Clans can claim, but for less well-read tomes? I think we've the advantage. For example, Hakim Saluot's epic, "A Jewel among the Stars," chronicling the exodus of the nations under Medinaat-Al-Salaam in our modern age. While I would never be so crass as to suggest that a Gaijin work could match a Rokugani one..."
His smug grin as he trails off practically shouts 'Oh wait, yes I would." But he stops there.
In the uneasy silence that follows, Ariel pipes up with, "If the spirit realms are of interest, I find myself quite drawn in by Isawa Tadan's analysis of Meiko's novels. Nonfiction, of course, but Isawa-san's insights into the nature of Yume-do were fascinating."

"I have read Isawa Tadan's analysis, yes, but I must disagree on the insights. One would expect Tadan to be a scholar of the spirit realms, and I fully expected as such, but when I dug a little into Tadan's history, I found it... lacking. Isawa Tadan is a skilled courtier, in which I mean Tadan is good at giving the impression of knowing things they might not actually know, but as far as I was able to tell, Tadan has never done any research on any spirit realms, leave alone Yume-do specifically. In summary, Tadan's analysis is no less fictional than Asahina Meiko's original works."

"A shame, I had not had the time to do such research on my own. Though it does answer a few things I found questionable in the treatise," Ariel say pleasantly, kicking Ketaan under the table before he can retort.

Fiction never really appealed to Naosuko. There was too much to see and do in this realm to be distracted by realms that didn't exist. She didn't begrudge others for liking those things, especially if they're duties were more mundane. The Tortoise continues eating her millet, this wasn't half bad.

Chik'kan is largely silent as the conversation flows around him, knowing that many Samurai don't need or want Nezumi imput. Besides which it smelt quite good here and that meant the promise of good food that went with those scents. Still the somewhat energetic Nezumi couldn't totally resist commenting, especially given they were talking about something he knew quite well.
Sniffing at the table, Chik'kan said quietly, "Chik'kan find it sad that Yume-do makes-makes nose-blind. It can show you home-home but it's not."

Kokishin lifts his cup up to his mouth to conceal a smile. Chik'kan rarely speaks in public, for reasons of fear of humans and dislike of their stares. If Chik'kan is speaking, it could signify approval of present company. It is almost a shame they will part ways once the task at hand is over. Kokishin purposely does not reply, though he nods in acknowledgment.

Ariel turns curious eyes to the Nezumi, unsure of what to make of his comment. "Apologies, nose-blind? I'm not sure that I follow. What do you mean?"

Enshiro, busy enjoying his food, raises an eyebrow at the curious expression.
Do these things see through their noses? Even in it's dreams? How unusual...
