Tamiyo can't suppress a grin as Hajime rises. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!"
"Anyway, Yozhiko-san, as Kailen-san asked, could you please share what bothers you about this compromise? If it's about who leads in combat, I'm a bit surprised at your insistence on a priest being in charge. You have officer and combat training perhaps? That would certainly qualify you!"

"Could you be a bit more specific, Asahina sama?" Kailen asks. "If you think that you are suitably trained and equipped to guide us in any situation, including battle, then we can discuss the matter once again." "It has nothing to do with training Kailen-san." Yozhiko replied. "You either want me to act as your leader or you don't. What you guys are suggesting is that I act as a figurehead while you have command on the field. In the end it is largely a matter of trust. Do you trust me to lead or not?" Tamiyo can't suppress a grin as Hajime rises. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" "Anyway, Yozhiko-san, as Kailen-san asked, could you please share what bothers you about this compromise? If it's about who leads in combat, I'm a bit surprised at your insistence on a priest being in charge. You have officer and combat training perhaps? That would certainly qualify you!" She shrugged. "I have already explain my view. It seems that I will have to repeat myself. This mission is complicated. It might get us in trouble and we might make contact with sapient lifeforms that are not necessarily Rokugani. By the kami, we are supposed to meet a gaijin. All these complications make the duties of any field commander complicated. So given the complexity of the mission I believe that even on the field it should be a servant of the kami, who calls the shots." She cocked her head as she thought on her answer. "As you would know I was trained as a Wardmaster by the Underhand. The contents of my training are subject of a quite complicated NDA, so I hope that you will forgive me for not getting into details."

Tamiyo holds up her hands wardingly, still smiling pleasantly.
"This is not so much an issue for me, though I would like to say that a mission being complicated does not exactly mean that 'simple' bushi or courtiers are not up to the task. Or put more succinctly, whatever the Isawa family has to say on the subject, shugenja are hardly inherently superior.
Training as a Warmaster qualifies you much more, but still I find the emphasis you put on the ability to speak with the kami in a combat situation most odd, more so if it is with aliens or gaijin. I do not quite understand how it could anyone a better officer. If anything, the spiritual necessities of being a priest often keep them away from such positions. Anyway, I'm willing to give it go. We shall see I suppose."

Biru pinches the bridge of his nose, "You guys just figure out whom has the bigger ego so we can move on. This is all moot the moment we get split up anyway, which inevitably happens." He shakes his head, "I have to take a walk my head is killing me." He bows and leaves the room.

"I will concur with Ikoma-san on the matter. I have the greatest respect for Shugenja and the abilities that most of us cannot hope to comprehend, but this has to be a two way avenue."
She sighs. "Yozhiko-san, my clan is based around preventing conflict. Of any kind. I would find it a great honour to be able to offer a compromise that you would appreciate, but if you are not willing to compromise at all, you are causing a conflict yourself, and that I am afraid I cannot abide by. Idealism can only ever be selective if one does not want to be a hypocrite, so you might as well share why you doubt Ikoma-san, Shinjo-san or anyone else is suited for leadership in battle."
"My suggestion was that you acted as leader with power to delegate to the other members of this group when things came up that either our school education, experiences or other skills made us better suited for than you yourself. It would, essentially, I suppose be your choice if you actually used delegation, so you still would have the power you wish, as far as I am concerned. I would not hesitate to remove support if that meant you set your own ideals and traditions and skills superior to ours without a very good reason."
"I implore you to explain your doubts on the rest of us so we may offer a better compromise, and to realise that this indeed has to be a compromise."

"Since when do you have a headache? Do you need any assistance with that?" "I will concur with Ikoma-san on the matter. What you are suggesting is completely different with what was suggested by others. I have no illusions that there are fields that are not my strong points. I was the one to suggested that we work though consensus building. In any case what Ikoma-san and you have suggested is acceptable."

Biru smiles and pauses at the door, "I'm still adjusting to the cranial replacement parts. I'll take my medications and the rejection symptom will pass its a temporary thing." He bows his head, "Choose a leader, and mean it. This while important to us, is not important to our mission. We are still a team on this." He rubs his temple and finishes leaving out the room.

Kailen is not exactly sure that she trusts Yozhiko enough after this, but she cannot but admire the way that she in fact managed to persuade the rest to do what she wanted. She nods in agreement with the rest as there is no point in arguing further. "Yozhiko sama, you said that you have a plan. Could you tell us more about it so that everyone gets ready for theur part?"

"Sure, Kailen-san." She replied and got up.
"You were all present at that excuse of mission briefing the Dragon Clan Champion did for us and by now you probably understand that he sent us in a fool's errant. More or less we are to investigate something, without making much noice and somehow transfer whatever knowledge we gather to the people. Me and Hajime-san did our studying. My readings were ominous. Hers were also troublesome. We have a list of things that i think we should do and I believe that us working on a project that will result in the bigest sci-fi blockbuster ever produced in Rokugan will be the perfect cover. So our meeting with the Sparrow clan champion is not anymore about us getting permision to make planetfall. It is about him and his clan colaborating on our project."
She exhaled a cloud of smoke.
"Opinions?"

"We are indeed in agreement for now. Someone better make sure Iuchi-san knows we are finished with this 'important matter'."
Miumi seems ambivalent about the agreement at best, and her nose only gets more scrunched up in what is either barely concealed distaste or a slightly constipated look of incredulity.
"It will be considered insensitive." Miumi is prompt and somewhat dismissive. "I am happy to do my duty where attending to arrival procedure and the relevant permissions we need, but I am not happy about doing such a thing against a fellow Minor Clan. That, and when it's a world that is so close to Tengoku as to be, I gather, uncomfortable to be on, are you really not aware of how blasphemous it will be seen? It will not be encouraging for Togashi-dono if the first thing we do is to make an enemy of an entire clan."
She crosses her arms. "I certainly won't subscribe to it. I cannot say I am in favour of a ruse in the first place. It will only ever cause trouble and strife. The idea may work outside of Hantei's Garden, but not ON it."

Tamiyo looks a bit confused.
"I am not quite certain how we suddenly are at the topic of ruses, blasphemy and making enemies? Aren't we going for the music video idea to drum up support for the Sparrow, and using this opportunity to investigate the small tainted area on Hantei's Garden?
The video and the support for the Sparrow are quite real and sincere, I assure you, Miumi-san!"

"In my opinion, it is as follows:"
Miumi sighs, looking increasingly like a thundercloud.
"One: The Sparrow are sanctioned by the Emperor to guard a planet so close to Tengoku that most people cannot bear to stand upon it, and one which their Daimyo asked for seppuku to cleanse the shame of failing to keep it pure. The Sparrow, while remaining honourably ascetic, are already getting all the support they can, I'm sure, and I am very uncertain of why either a music video or sci-fi... 'blockbuster'" (The word blockbuster said with truly venomous distaste) "Would do anything to enlighten anyone of the plight, since only the best are even sanctioned to try and restore it, and these are repeatedly apologizing for not succeeding. They are not begging for help, and encouraging people to have the arrogance to think they can do better than the best there is would be of no use, so I don't see why they would agree to it."
"One and one: If this planet is so pure that one can hardly stand to be upon it, would you really not consider it blasphemous to shoot something so crude as to merit the term 'blockbuster'. If anything, it will make our mission more difficult down the line. Were I a Sparrow, I would feel insulted, because it would clearly be to make ourselves koku off of a tragedy happening to a clan valuing poverty. Can you really not see..." She sputters. "Are you really so dense that you think that as long as your 'transcendant' mind thinks it fine, everyone else will too?"
She huffs, glancing finally towards Tamiyo, adding:
"Three: We are clearly not making a sci-fi blockbuster. That is not why we're going there. As soon as you speak of covers, you are engaging in a ruse. Now, omitting facts is a necessity sometimes, but outright deception? Think of what happens when things are found out."

The Crane heard the Dove and exhaled. "Answer to what you called one: That place is already tainted and cleansed. I hope you understand how far that is from the blessed state that it once was. Things change, live with it. The Sparrow now live on a space station that needs stuff to remain functionable, which it does largely due to the assistance of the Great Clans, with the Crane, Crab and Unicorn if I am not correct shouldering most of it. That is reality, what you speak of is wishful ignorance." Her tone was calm and during the whole thing she maintained her gaze to the Dove. "Answer to what you called one and one: I guess we are lucky that you are not a Sparrow then and seriously aren't Dove supposed to prevent conflicts? You are dangerously close to genuinely offending me, I would advice your choice of words to be more careful in the future. Last but not least, your third argument. We can do a blockbuster or a series, as long as we work together. It will actually help into fulfilling our mission, since it will serve as a very good medium to 'spread the word to the Empire'."

Post by Shinjo Kailen on Jun 27, 2017 0:37:26 GMT 10
Kailen is mostly silent during this newly risen conflict. Harsh words have been spoken. This is not good for the mission and the mission has to succeed to a point that will, at least, justify doing what she needs to do. The Shinjo takes a moment to think and then smiles her best and sweetest smile. "Why don't we all take a breath at this point and try to regain what seems to be getting lost by the moment. Our trust to each other." She looks towards Miumi first and then Yozhiko. "Miumi san, it is obvious that Yozhiko san has a plan that involves a huge artisan effort. I find it a very smart idea to launch the results of our investigation to the public through cinema. I will agree with you that there are some details that are very important and need to be handled with precision, but I am sure that we both accept the simple truth that there is no one better in the Empire to handle such a delicate artisan project in the way it deserves to be handled than a Crane. We have no reason to judge a person that has just made a pause in presenting her plan in such a harsh way, no? And moreover, insuating that there is a ruse? I am afraid that you have been affected by your prolonged stay on board the ship. We have been using some prototype air filters and in rare cases they have been proved to cause mild confusion to new passengers." She smiles to Miumi once again. "Worry not! You will be alright within the hour." /Sincerity : 36
